Baroness Neville-Rolfe DBE CMG a Minister of State at the Cabinet Office visited York Central in early January 2023. She is responsible for Cabinet Office business in the House of Lords and her responsibilities include the Places for Growth programme that seeks to relocate Civil Service roles out of London to the regions and nations of the UK.
The York Central site has the potential to deliver 6,500 jobs, 2,500 homes and 1 million square feet of offices, retail and leisure to significantly boost economic regeneration in the city. There is a proposed government hub being explored as a potential anchor tenant, which demonstrates the Government’s commitment to the site.
The proposed Hub represents an opportunity for the Government to invest in the North of England to deliver improved facilities for the Civil Service through delivery of a new-build Hub in York.
The Minister and members of the York Central project team took part in a tour of the site as well as visiting the record breaking Mallard, which was also built in Yorkshire.
