Over 130 people joined two free, family friendly archaeology events in August 2023.
“Uncovering York Central” events, held at the York Central Project Office at Sisk on Leeman Road, offered members of the public an opportunity to discover what’s been found hiding underneath the site so far. It was also an opportunity for people to come and meet the team and get the latest updates on York Central.
More than 200 photos, artefacts and exhibits were shared throughout the events. Budding engineers and archaeologists were given the chance to dress up in PPE and explore finds in two discovery sand pits. Plus, there was excavator equipment on show.
The York Central Partnership organised the drop in events, in collaboration with infrastructure contractors, John Sisk and Son Ltd and archaeology consultants Tetra Tech and On-Site Archaeology. The sessions spanned 3,000 years of history underground showing examples of pots and pottery to railway relics and even human remains. It was also an opportunity to share information about the vision above ground for the next 15 years.
