In January and February 2025, York Central infrastructure contractors John Sisk & Son Ltd will be continuing works in and around Leeman Road to make progress with the new road as part of the wider York Central development.
The route down Leeman Road will remain open to pedestrians at all times.
The following works have been advised for January; all subject to suitable weather conditions:
- Day time weekend work: 11/12th January
Open Reach will be laying some cable within the site boundary. This is not expected to cause any disturbance to residents. Work will take place between 8am and 5pm on Saturday and Sunday.
- Weekend and nighttime closures: Leeman Road vehicle access
Several nighttime closures will take place in January. These might have an impact on your journeys. Road closures will take place between 10 January 2025 and the end of February 2025.
An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Salisbury Road, Water End, Clifton, Bootham, Museum Street, Station Rise.
The following weekend closures have been confirmed:
- Leeman Road bend:
- 10 January 2025 at 9pm – 13 January 2025 at 6am
- 17 January 2025 at 9pm – 20 January 2025 at 6am
- 24 January 2025 at 9pm – 27 January 2025 at 6am
During these periods, Sisk will be carrying out drainage and utility works in the existing road, kerbing and concreting works, as well as road surfacing and white lines.
Some of this work will involve some saw cutting and some breaking out of the carriageway, which will be unavoidably noisy. As much noisy work as possible will be done during the day, however some of this work will need to be done during the night shifts.
Wherever possible, Sisk will complete noisy work early in the shift but there will be some instances where this isn’t possible and apologise in advance for any inconvenience this might cause. Its workforce is briefed at each shift to respect our neighbours and keep noise to a minimum.

- Midweek nighttime closures: 20th January to 6th February 2025, 7.30pm to 6am
Sisk is currently scheduled to close the road on Leeman Road at Marble Arch Tunnel every weekday night, starting 20 January until 6 February 2025.
These closures will be in place from 7.30pm and the road will be open before 6am each morning. This work is weather dependant and the dates might be subject to change.
- Bus Replacement Service:
York Pullman will be providing a bus replacement service from Kingsland Terrace to York City Centre and return. Service number 10S – Leeman Road. It will be a York Pullman branded vehicle.
The route will be: Blossom Street – A59 – Water End – Leeman Road (by the vets) – Kingsland Terrace – Salisbury Terrace
The service will then follow the one-way system and then travel back to the city centre along the same route. Stops within the city centre will mirror the existing service.
It is expected that additional journey times from Salisbury Terrace to city centre will be approximately 20 minutes.
For evening closures, buses will operate hourly and will use the diversion route instead of travelling down Leeman Road. There will be a bus every 30 minutes during daytime closures until 7.30pm. After 7.30pm service will be hourly.
Timetables will be available in the bus stops. For more information visit https://www.itravelyork.info/ and https://www.yorkpullmanbus.co.uk/.
Sisk would like to extend its thanks for the ongoing patience of residents during these essential works.
