York Central Developers to host community drop in event

The drop in style information and engagement event will update local people on progress and next steps of this major regeneration project to create a brand new city quarter for York.

The strategic development partners behind the York Central development are inviting members of the community to find out more about the next steps of the development and ask any questions to the team.

McLaren Regeneration and Arlington Real Estate are hosting a drop-in event at the Guildhall on the 13th February (3pm – 7pm) with all residents invited.  Members of the wider York Central partnership will also be in attendance to answer questions about this exciting project.

This is part of an ongoing community engagement programme, following on from City of York Council Holgate Ward Councillor-organised public meetings last October, and previous engagement events held.  There will also be quarterly engagement events throughout the coming year that will provide opportunities for local people to meet the team delivering York Central and be updated about the progress.

McLaren Regeneration and Arlington Real Estate are working with Homes England and Network Rail Property, as well as key partners including the City of York Council and the National Railway Museum, to deliver this major regeneration project.

Tom Gilman, Managing Director of McLaren Regeneration, said: “We’re looking forward to seeing as many people as possible at this event.  It will be a great opportunity to meet with the local community in person and to share more about our plans to create a world-class city quarter for the people of York, by delivering a pioneering and extraordinary new place where everyone feels welcome.  As part of our on-going commitment to fully engage the local community, this will form part of a series of regular events around the York Central site.”

York Central has outline consent to deliver 2,500 new homes (at least 20% of which will be affordable) and create up to one million sq ft of office, retail and hospitality space, along with improvements to the York Railway Station and an enhanced National Railway Museum.

York Central will also include 18+ acres of park land and public realm, including two vibrant public squares that will connect the new development to the surrounding neighbourhoods and the adjacent York City Centre.

Located next to York railway station, York Central has the potential to generate 6,500 jobs and will help to grow York’s future economy by 20%, by adding £1.16bn GVA to the city.

A planning application covering the first phase of the masterplan is expected to be submitted to the Council later this year.
